3. Kolibri brush series 88 SKI
The 88 SKI series brushes are made from a special synthetic hair mixture.
The advantages over conventional synthetic brushes are
– the brushes can absorb and hold significantly more liquid (paint)
– the paint is dispensed much more precisely thanks to a special surface structure
The brushes also have a very fine tip and high elasticity. This makes them a first-class alternative to brushes made from natural Kolinsky hair (the highest quality and most expensive hair used in the manufacture of brushes).
The hair is set in high-quality nickel-plated brass ferrules. The wooden handles are varnished several times.
RRP: 4,50€

ARTIST OF THE MONTH:
Diane Antone
I was born and spent my very earliest years in London in the grey post-war years. We were lucky to soon be able to get away from the smog and traffic and had moved to the countryside by the time I was eight. I was always fascinated by nature and spent much time wandering around out in the fields that surrounded our village. Each day when I walked to school I would pay more attention to the hedgerows and plants which grew along the lanes than to chatting with my peers. Once at school, my favourite lessons were art and craft. But as I grew up I found I wanted more than anything to travel and experience as much of life as possible. For this reason I gave up the idea of becoming an artist and had many different jobs, and lived in many different countries.

Where do you find ideas for your art process?
Most of my art is inspired by nature. I live in a remote part of France surrounded by nature and animals, and the weather and the cycle of life is a big part of what influences us throughout the year.
How often do you make art and what does it mean to you?
I paint every day because it is the most important thing in my life at this stage to share the desire to create a little beauty in the world.
What are your plans for the future?
I hope to continue doing what I am doing now for as long as I can. The future cannot be planned.

Tell us, what a day in your life looks like, if you’re not making art?
We have sheep, chickens, dogs and cats sharing our home with us, so much of my time is spent caring for their various needs. I also cook all our food completely from scratch, and as vegetarians we depend on produce from our garden for much of our nourishment, so caring for the vegetable garden is also a concern. I enjoy other crafts such as knitting and sewing when I have time, and I enjoy spinning the wool from our sheep’s’ fleeces.
What was the most exciting part of your work with the box and what was the biggest challenge?
I am not a person to get excited about things these days. I enjoyed painting the little farmyard scene which is the main image in the box, and had fun with the chickens for the stickers.
What is your artistic process like?
I take an intuitive attitude towards art, as well as my life in general. I try to allow the day, the weather, the paint, the mood to influence what I do and not to plan things out too rigidly. I am lucky to have a large well equipped and air-conditioned studio which helps me to spend most of my day in the place where I create, and this way when the inspiration strikes I’m in the right place to act on it.
This box is full of different art supplies. How do you deal with the different supplies to put them together into one artwork?
The box actually contains one brush, one pen and one set of paints. The connection between them is more than obvious!
